Recently, I attended a lecture by Dr. Margaret Christensen, MD and she mentioned in her lecture a book entitled The UltraMind Solution: A Functional Medicine Approach to Brain Disorders. Synchronistically, I later found this book review on Longevity Medicine Review and thought that this had some very good information for those who may deal with brain disorders. Dr. Mark Hyman is a doctor of functional medicine. Functional doctors treat each patient individually. Instead of prescribing a medication to treat the symptom, they look at the body as a whole and find out why the person is exhibiting these symptoms. Disorders range from Alzheimers, ADHD, ADD, schizophrenia, depression and others.

It is no secret that obesity has reached epidemic proportions not only in the USA but other countries as well. And what is more disturbing is that childhood obesity is also on the rise. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), in 2007 an estimated 22 million children under five were thought to be overweight worldwide. Such children are more likely to also be overweight as adults, and to develop a host of health problems—from cardiovascular disease and diabetes to various sorts of cancer (Reprod Toxicol, 2007; 23: 290–6).
