Tips from the Professor – Dr. Stephen Chaney, PhD

By now most of you are aware of the health risks of abdominal obesity, or belly fat, also called visceral fat.

We know that is dangerous because it can lead to inflammation – but that’s just the beginning.
What happens next is even worse!

We start storing fat in our muscles, our liver and our pancreas. And you really don’t want to store fat there. Read the rest of this entry »

I don’t know if it is just from all the stress over the holidays, or simply an obvious indication of just how depleted our bodies truly are from the accumulated lack of nutrition on a daily basis that we give it, but it seems every where I turn someone has a migraine.

Every cell in our bodies is under constant assault on a daily basis from pollution – all self-inflicted.  I have friends and neighbors all around me, who spend more on their dry cleaning than they do on providing proper nutrition for their own bodies. Even if you ate all organic foods, it still would not be enough due to the degradation of our soil conditions that these very crops are grown in.  We all need to supplement our diets on a daily basis with vitamins and minerals – with the purist, most potent products available.

If you owned a Ferrari, would you drive it around by filling up the tank with the cheapest gasoline just because the gas station is conveniently located near your house? Absolutely not! We all know that if you put sugar in a gas tank, it will ruin the engine.  Yet we don’t even blink when we do the exact same thing to our own bodies, day in and day out.

Do you really want a solution for the health care crisis facing this country? It starts right now, with each of us taking responsibility for what we eat, what we buy, and who we choose to do business with. Making healthier lifestyle choices today, in this moment,  is the single greatest act we can all do toward saving our planet.

For those of you who are suffering the intense pain of migraines, here are  some holistic Tips from the Professor, that might help shed some light on helping you, or someone you know, to find relief.  Read the rest of this entry »

In last week’s post I talked about the dangers of GMO or genetically modified foods in our diet. Unfortunately it is not easy to avoid these foods in the US and Canada simply because unlike other industrialized nations, GMO’s don’t have to be labeled in these countries. Therefore, avoiding these GM foods is a bit more challenging than in other industrialized nations.  However, if given a chance most Americians, according to a CBS/New York Times poll, would choose foods made without GMO’s if they knew by their labels. Therefore, eating Non GMO foods can be quiet challenging. Read the rest of this entry »

Plastics Chemical Causes Heart Disease

The chemical found in plastic food and drink containers causes heart disease, researchers have confirmed. Traces of the chemical, BPA (Biphenol A), are detectable in 90 per cent of people. The link to heart disease has been established by researchers from the Peninsula Medical School at the University of Exeter, who studied BPA levels in a large US population study over a three-year period. The study provides further ammunition to those campaigning for a complete ban of the chemical. Several countries have banned the chemical in baby feeding bottles and toys after concerns that it posed a health risk to infants. But the chemicals industry is likely to fight a complete ban. It is one of the most highly-produced chemicals in the world, with over 2.2 million tonnes (6.4 billion pounds) manufactured every year. (Source: PLos ONE, 2010; 5: e867 Read the rest of this entry »
